Caravan Park Waste Minimisation Project PDF Print E-mail

The success of the Caravan Park Waste Minimisation Trial has resulted in funding being allocated to continue to work with caravan parks across the region following the same process. Currently Midwaste are working with the following 5 parks to minimise the waste that is sent to landfill:

  • Melaleuca Caravan Park - Port Macquarie
  • Horseshoe Bay Caravan Park - South West Rocks
  • Hat Head Holiday Park - Hat Head
  • Grassy Head Holiday Park - Grassy Head
  • Stuarts Point Holiday Park - Stuarts Point

The general outline of the project is to:

  • Conduct and initial visit to assess the current waste services
  • Conduct audits on the general waste stream to assess the quantity of recycling and organics currently going to landfill
  • Provide infrastructure and educational material to support the introduction (or increase the uptake) of recycling
  • Explore options for the collection and processing of organic waste if appropriate
  • Conduct a workshop to coincide with the introduction of the new system if appropriate
  • Some months after the new system has been in place:
    • conduct a survey of users if appropriate (only for regulars or residents)
    • conduct comparative audits of the general waste bins
  • Write up case studies of each project
